The Blessings in a Backpack program in Belmont, Wisconsin, was started in 2016 when I read an article in a farm newspaper about a lady in Wisconsin who saw a need in her community and started her own program to fill that need. I realized that if her community had a need, so did ours. After some research, I partnered up with Blessings in a Backpack, and the program was launched with the help of a large grant. Since then, organizations, individuals, and local businesses have helped keep our program "in the green."
We shop for shelf-stable, nutritious food items to be handed out to over 50 local children in grades kindergarten through sixth who are part of the free and reduced lunch program. The school employees do this on Fridays for the children to take home for the weekend when school lunches are not available.
Our dedicated volunteer staff of four pulls this off every week during the school year. I am so thankful for them! Please contact me if you have any questions about the Belmont Blessings program: Kim Voigts, (608) 732-3923 or voigtsmoos@gmail.com. I welcome your interest in our program. Thank you!
